This section is devoted to Steve's woodturning.
I specialise in turning wet wood especially spalted wood and natural edged items and takes great delight in using wood found by the side of the road.
I have a fully equipped workshop with two lathes. A Hegner HDB 200XL which I use for all types of woodturning from small to large items, and a small mini lathe which I take to craft shows to demonstrate woodturning including pens, light pulls and jewellery beads.
Hegner lathe with large piece of yew ready to be rough turned.

This natural edge yew platter was turned from wet wood thet was full of red ants when it was brought inside and put on the lathe, which made for an interesting hour or so. Every time I thought I had got rid of the last ant I turned on the lathe and another ant flew onto my clothes out of the rotting bits of bark. As you can see from the photograph I managed to keep some of the bark in the final piece.
Example of closed vessel turned from a piece of Welsh Mountain Alder found by the side of the road after some tree clearance had taken place. Leaving a piece of the bark visible adds to the texture of the work.
It was turned whilst still wet immediately it got to the workshop.
