Hand carved Celtic knots

Steve carves Celtic knots, some examples of which are shown here.

History

A Celtic knot is a recognisable form of Celtic artwork. They started appearing in history after about 450 AD; the Celtic knots meaning is sketchy at best, because there is little written history documenting their purpose.

The Celtic knot symbol, is also referred to as the mystic knot, endless knot or eternal ring although many examples exist of old Celtic knots that were multiple strands, and even some that didn't join up at the end but were broken at some point within the pattern.

Steve's Celtic knots

Steve's Celtic knots take the form of both eternal rings and multiple strand knots.  One interesting feature of some Celtic knotcarvings is that when turned through 180 degrees to view from the other side they are exactly the same as when viewed from the original side.  Steve calls these mirrored Celtic knots.

Steve's carved Celtic knots can be used simply as an ornamental carving or as a "Stress buster" or "Executive toy".  They are so organic in touch and feel that they are soothing to hold and stroke.

All of Steve's celtic knots are hand carved by him.  The wood he uses is all recycled wood that would have been used as firewood or left to rot.
